Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they each miss someone very special, someone who was left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly, he breaks from the group, flying over the green grass, faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into those trusting eyes, so long gone from your life, but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together...

Easy Louton Miss

Easy Louton Miss

"Easy" is not a particularly original nick name for an Easy Jet bred horse, but that's what Mr. Bartosh called the mahogany bay mare with the jet black points and dapples in her coat. She was broad, straight-legged and of impressive lineage: a grand daughter of Easy Jet and Go Man Go, both World Champion, Hall of Fame quarter horse stallions. Mr. Bartosh needed to sell some of his horses (as all horse people do), and was quoting prices on everyone in the pasture. She was out of my price range, but I had my house up for sale and figured that if I was lucky, I might make enough off the sale for a generous down-payment on my new home and have a little left over. When my house sale went through a month later I called Mr. Bartosh, offering him less than his asking price, but telling him he could keep the foal she was carrying. Bartosh was looking forward to that foal, and readily agreed to my offer. That's how I came to own the horse registered as Easy Louton Miss. Bartosh had purchased her dam from a top race horse breeder and later president of AQHA, Mr. Jerry Windham. Like me, he had a limited budget and had bought the aged Go Man Go daughter in foal to Windham's Easy Jet son. I believe the bay filly Bartosh was presented with as a result was the only foal he ever got out of the grand old girl, but the bay filly was well worth it. As things turned out we only got one foal from Easy before we lost her to peritonitis, but she had a beautiful red filly who looks like she will fly. We'll miss Easy, whose name really did fit her. She wasn't vindictive toward other horses, she protected members of her herd from intruders, and stood guard over horses that were in trouble. She waited patiently on her feed while we scurried to take care of the ones who were banging and stamping with annoyance because we weren't fast enough. She liked to get a scratch after her meal. Easy was a pleasure to be around, and we will miss her terribly.
